Begin with one new habit. Then spend the week making space for it, keeping a small promise to yourself and finding what works in your real life. Grab a notebook and start whenever you choose.
Wanting a different year is the beginning. The next step is deciding what you will do differently today. A small, repeatable habit gives that intention somewhere to go.
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
A change you want to make needs a place in your everyday life. Today, choose one small habit that moves you towards something that matters to you. Make the first version easy enough to do on an ordinary, busy day. Then do it once.
Pick one. Keep it small.
You do not need to do all of these. Choose one idea, or use your own.
Read a little
Read one page after your morning drink.
Start your day deliberately
Write down one priority before opening social media.
Make a little space
Spend two minutes clearing your desk after work.
Reconnect
Send one thoughtful message after lunch.
Step outside
Take a five-minute walk at a pace that suits you.
Try an earlier start
Move your alarm 10–15 minutes earlier and make room for enough sleep. If 5am is your goal, build towards it gradually rather than making it a rule for everyone.
Write your plan in your notebook
My new habit is: __________ I will do it after / at: __________ The smallest version I can do is: __________
Your win today: choose one habit, do it once and tick it off in your notebook. Repeat it tomorrow. This week is a starting point, not a deadline for making it automatic.
A question for your notebook
What small habit will I start, when will I do it, and what will remind me?
Short on time? Read one page, write one priority, or spend one minute putting something back in its place.
DAY 02 / SPACE
Make a little space
Today’s challenge
Choose one small source of friction: a cluttered desk, a distracting app or an overfilled calendar. Spend ten minutes making it easier for tomorrow-you to focus.
A question for your notebook
What am I giving my attention to that does not deserve it?
Short on time? Put your phone out of reach for ten minutes.
DAY 03 / CONSISTENCY
Keep one promise
Today’s challenge
Return to the habit you chose on day one. Attach it to something you already do: after making coffee, read your page; after lunch, step outside. Repeat the smallest version today and notice what makes it easier.
A question for your notebook
What is a promise I can realistically keep, even on a busy day?
Short on time? Make the first version so small you can start right now.
DAY 04 / ENERGY
Protect your energy
Today’s challenge
Notice what helps you feel restored. Make room for one manageable action: a screen-free break, a short walk at your own pace, or a little more time to wind down tonight.
A question for your notebook
What gives me energy, and what quietly takes it away?
Short on time? Take two minutes away from your screen.
DAY 05 / COURAGE
Do the thing you avoid
Today’s challenge
Pick a small task you have been putting off. Set a ten-minute timer and take the first step. You do not have to finish the whole thing; the aim is to begin.
A question for your notebook
What would become easier if I started today?
Short on time? Open the document, find the number, or write the first line.
DAY 06 / CONNECTION
Make room for what matters
Today’s challenge
Choose a person, interest or part of your life that deserves more attention. Give it fifteen intentional minutes. Be present, without turning it into another performance target.
A question for your notebook
Who or what do I want more of in my everyday life?
Short on time? Send a thoughtful message to someone you care about.
DAY 07 / DIRECTION
Choose your next chapter
Today’s challenge
Read your notes from day one. Notice what helped, what felt difficult and what you learned. Keep one small habit and choose when you will practise it over the next seven days.
A question for your notebook
What will I continue, and how will I make it easier to show up?
Short on time? Write your next small step and when you will take it.
This is a beginning.
Keep your habit small enough to return to. Use what you have learned this week to decide your next step.
